Camping on South Africa's West Coast

"Not trusting our memories, we snapped a quick photo of the map and gathered our things. Full of fish, and with a renewed sense of purpose, we drove on to Lutzville and north to the R363.

There is no better route along the west coast than this. For 90 kilometres, cove after sandy cove unfolded before us, and we cruised unhurried down the jeep track as it wound in and out along the shore. Hectares of farmland spread inland, but this narrow strip of pristine coastline must be one of the few places left in South Africa where you can wild camp on your own piece of beach."
